Evolution on a Low Gravity World
Lets start with a landscape no too different
from that of Earth but with dryer climates and less gravity. How
would life evolve here? Less gravity means less ties to the ground
below. Trees and grass would have the potential to be very tall.
Animals would be able to run faster and leap further and jump higher.
Sky dwelling animals could be larger and even may use gas-filled
bladders to float about like fish in the sky. Plants may do the
same. Larger animals would be able to move about easier. Some animals
could be taller and thinner. Keep these things in consideration
when designing native life-forms on Trocken.

Floating
Lantern
Designer: Michael Fichtenmayer
based on ideas from NG special.
Summary: Balloon-like plant common to Trocken.
Floating pale green plant which attaches to anything using spiney
leafs at the ends of long vines. Seeds initially start as small
viney plant in loose soil. When mature, a balloon-like seed-sack
develops and fills with an flamable yet lighter than air gas. The
balloon eventually becomes light enough to pull the entire plant
from the ground. The plants float freely for weeks afterwards occasionally
attachiing themselves to trees and other vertical surfaces using
their spiney leaves. Mature balloons range from 2-5 feet in diameter.
When plant begins to turn a golden brown the sack bursts and scatters
its seeds. Balloons emit bioluminescent glow making them a unique
sight in the dark.
Trockens colonist began harvesting and farming
the Floating Lantern as a cheap and natural source of gas. This
gas is used in heating, cooking and industrial applications. Due
to it's volitile nature it is not commonly used in derrigibles.
